As part of the Joffery's 60th Anniversary season, the acclaimed Chicago ballet company present their first ever recital of John Neumeier's evocative version of Sylvia, the tale of a mythical huntress on the cusp of womanhood. First conceived for the Paris Opera Ballet 1997, Sylvia breaks with Romantic ballet conventions as the main character's coming of age journey begins at the awakening of her sensuality. Mythology is intermingled with historical reference as the choreography captures the physicality and passion of a young and exuberant woman as she follows her ambitions and experiences true pleasure.
Set to the original Leo Delibes score, this is Sylvia, but for the modern world. Don't miss this rich and elegant work that displays the talents of one of modern ballet's most important figures.
