A once In a generation Theatrical Event
The Goodman Theatre presents the most ambitious production in its history this February with 2666. Based on the 900 page novel by Chilean novelist Robert Bolano, published posthumously in 2004, 2666 is a sprawling epic loosely focused on a series of murders in Mexico's Chihuahua region, and spans continents, centuries and a huge cast of characters. It's brought to life on stage with video projections, hundreds of costumes and a cast of 15 taking on over 80 different roles.
Co-directors and adapters Robert Falls and Seth Brockley have been working on a stage version for over a decade, but putting on a production of this scale has always proved to be a stumbling block. That was until Powerball Jackpot winner and Chicago native Roy Cockrum set up an Arts Foundation with his winnings, and 2666 was given the first grant.
What is 2666 About?
Mammoth in its scope, 2666 is separated into five parts, each with its own unique tone, be it fairy tale or hard-boiled crime noir. Among the multitude of characters that pass through the work are a group of European academics on the hunt for a reclusive author, and a team of Mexican detectives investigating a serial killer.
